My report for this session largely draws on the words of Goodgym Co-ordinator, Conroy Barnett, to whom ECCO extends thanks and indeed thanks to all the Goodgymnasts who from time to time turn out to assist.
On 30 November, 6 members of Goodgym Croydon, along with residents from ECCO, came together to help tidy up the area around some of the raised beds along The Boulevard. The residents were Sasha, Ann (although not in the photo) and Jerry. Sasha, our ECCO Comms Supremo, works for Octopus, who are one of Goodgym’s donors. Ann Douthwaite represented the ever-youthful residents of Cedar Road.
I reminded the volunteers that on their last visit they had filled 26 bags and commented on how good it would be to surpass that number…. Not that I was putting on any pressure, I gave a target of 27.
Due to the change in season there was litter and a lot of leaves on the ground, some of us swept and bagged the leaves and litter while others pruned the edges of the overgrown raised beds. During our work we found out about Magda’s solo mission litter picking in Park Hill and her discovery of Coca Cola cans.
Glad to report that Goodgym smashed their previous number of 26 bags with a whopping 32 bags of litter and leaves. In my eagerness to stack up bags, I even put a bag full of Goodym high-vis vests in with the rubbish bags. Fortunately, my error was spotted!
