Our events

We organise events to bring local people together and will support others to do the same in the ECCO area within the resources available.  We have public liability insurance for events we are involved in and can publicise them on our web, Facebook and Twitter pages. Contact us on mail@eastcroydon.org.uk

Free events

Some of our events cost nothing to put on, because the organisers provide everything themselves.  Why not put on one of these events in your street?  Or maybe there is something else you would like to do? Contact us on mail@eastcroydon.org.uk if you would like to discuss your ideas.

Big Lunches

  • Find neighbours to help you
  • Agree the time and date in June (national Big Lunch month)
  • Agree a location on your street (if you want to close your street to traffic you need council approval)
  • Ask your neighbours to bring garden furniture and food to share
  • Let everyone in your street know (flyers, posters, door knocking)
  • Put up some decorations (balloons, bunting, flags etc)

Hallowe’en

  • Find neighbours to help you
  • Agree the time, the date must be 31 October
  • Find a spooky space on your street
  • Plan some activities (marshmallow toasting, bobbing for apples, temporary tattoos)
  • Gather sweets and decorations
  • Let everyone in your street know (flyers, posters, door knocking)
  • Dress up!

Croydon Goodgym

  • Find neighbours to help you
  • Contact Croydon Goodgym and ask them if they will take on your task (weeding verges etc)
  • Agree the time and date
  • Encourage everyone to join in (flyers, posters, door knocking)

Street Clean-ups

  • Find neighbours to help you
  • Contact Croydon Council’s Clean and Green Officer
  • Agree which streets will be covered
  • Agree the time and date
  • Find somewhere to have tea and cakes afterwards (a pub, café or home)
  • Encourage everyone to join in (flyers, posters, door knocking)
  • Make or buy cakes

Funded events

Some of our events cost money to put on.  Sometimes this is a small amount and they can be funded by donations made during the course of the activity itself.  For example, our annual pub quizzes  are mostly funded through the fabulous game of “reverse” bingo that we play in the intermission (taught to us by Linda, former landlady at The Cricketers).

For others, such as our fun days, craft afternoon, half term sports event and Irish music session, we have been fortunate enough to receive grants from Croydon Council and the Greater London Authority.  Contact us on mail@eastcroydon.org.uk  if you would like support when applying for a grant to put on an event in the ECCO area.
