The public realm plans for Surrey Street & the surrounding area to be announced at this drop in meeting and the chance for the community to have input on what it wants in Surrey Street, one of the oldest street markets in England and a forgotten jewel of Croydon.
Just testing whether this gets sent in the ordinary way. More to follow!

Who is the patronising person who penned this article? How dare they call Surrey Street a “forgotten jewel”? It was absolutely heaving with people all last week. And they were not buying scented candles and takeaway food either! They were buying and queuing in great numbers for fruit and veg. What needs to change? It looks to me as though some group wants to continue the disastrous attempt to change it into a clothes and takeaway food hub and a home for the scented candle sellers. I do not want that. It is and always has been a food market, specialising in wonderful fruit and veg.We have got enough takeaways in Croydon – we are awash with them! Croydon is more boot sale than box park and it is about time the smarty pants realised that.Be honest. If we want all this kind of stuff we can go to any London street market (and I go to them all) and see the damage that lunch-time trade aimed at office workers has done to our heritage. If this group wants a get-rich-quick scheme, let them go elsewhere.
