The elections are over and the outcome is settled for the next few years, so let’s get together and get down to business.
Here in East Croydon, part of Addiscombe Ward, nothing may have changed in terms of our local councillors but everything has changed in terms of the complexion of the Council. Suddenly it has gone to a clear Labour majority.
For our community on the border between North & South we face very distinct challenges. Both parties have in the past tended to favour their heartlands at our communities expense, with our councillors often being denied the influence they deserve. We in East Croydon and other residential communities adjacent to the “Metropolitan City Centre” (town centre) encounter issues that the outlying areas do not experience.
We must demand that the incoming Labour Party acts for everyone to create a cohesive town environment. It is essential that the mid-town communities are heard and gain their fair share of the rewards.
The ONLY WAY we can achieve this is through the establishment of a Community / Residents Representative Group. This future group must represent everyone in the community, residents and businesses alike. For the most part it will be a thankless task. But it will go a long way to ensuring that the community, that we live in, is properly represented at all levels.
