Network Rail are seeking planning permission to open the south side of the pedestrian footbridge over the railway between Cherry Orchard Road (east side) and Dingwall Road (west side). However, they are also asking for permission NOT to provide gates onto the north side of the bridge, which would provide access to the railway platforms. This will mean a long walk over the bridge to use the gates on the opposite side for rail travellers to or from the Cherry Orchard Road side.
The plan below is taken from page 4 of the covering letter accompanying the request for planning permission.

It is believed that this is contrary to the original agreement given for the installation of the footbridge which was to give better access to the station as well as to the land on the other side of the tracks.
The deadline for making the decision is 16 December. You can comment via this link, which also provides further information on the matter: https://publicaccess3.croydon.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=documents&keyVal=SLP9BYJLJ8R00
You can choose to
- Object: if you feel there should be access to the station platforms from the Cherry Orchard Road side
- Support: if you feel there should NOT be access to the station platforms from the Cherry Orchard Road side
- Be neutral: if you don’t mind either way

A bridge between Cherry Orchard Road and Dingwall Road serving the railway station from both areas is such an obvious and essential piece of infrastructure that I am astonished by everyone including the property developers there not making sure the bridge was available and open from the moment the first half was constructed. I am deeply depressed that there are still people blocking the final opening of the bridge..
