Joan Pick (1940-2017) was an East Croydon celebrity known as “the running lady”, an environmental campaigner whose personal carbon footprint was close to zero.
On Wednesday 6 March 2024 you are invited to two events to celebrate Joan’s life and work, and to take forward her legacy.
10.30-11.15 – Join us at the planted bed on the corner of Bisenden Road and Addiscombe Road. Children from Tunstall Nursery and Peony Court Care Home will be planting colourful plants and shrubs in front of the tree which was planted in Joan’s honour in 2017.
11.15-11.30 – Cllr Humayun Kabir (Mayor of Croydon in 2019) will install a plaque dedicated to Joan. There will be short speeches in honour of Joan.
11.30-12.30 – ECCO will be providing coffee and cake at nearby 6 Blake Road, CR06UH, home of ECCO member Jerry Fitzpatrick.
2.30-3.30 – Peony Court Care Home (almost opposite Joan’s planted bed at 58 Addiscombe Road, CR05PH) is hosting Tunstall Nursery children working alongside Peony Court residents and local volunteers to create a mural themed “Our Future – what we love”. Delicious tea and cake will be served – and you are cordially invited to join the activities and enjoy the refreshments.
