Asset of Community Value
This photo was taken (in more typical Croydon weather) a century after The Glamorgan (as we know it) was built. We began our adventure in 2017 so we are headed towards the Bi-Centenary of our pub. And we are NOT going away. Earlier this year the incidental temporary absent owner of this asset was busy disposing of it, anticipating a tidy profit of at least 200%, and so rejected the generous bid of our community campaign. They had criminally neglected their asset for five years and it is occupied by squatters.
This iconic East Croydon pub still stands on its corner where once a beautiful community cherry orchard stood. No interested alternative private owner has met the inflated expectations of the present owner. Thus we enter the next phase of our campaign. Friends, we meet again!
Both these meetings (checked as ever with Councillor Sean Fitzsimons) – by Zoom or in person (to be decided) – are important. In 2022 community values can still be asserted in the face of private greed. Croydon needs to see that we are still campaigning. Dates for your diaries:
Thursday 1 September 2022 @ 7:30 pm. Next Meeting – survey & planning.
Thursday 13 October 2022 @ 7:30 pm. Annual General Meeting – election of campaign officers & events.
See you there!
