Part of Cherry Orchard Road will be closed from Monday 6th April – Sunday 19th April

The Menta Redrow building site on Cherry Orchard Road (from Billinton Hill to Oval Road) is due to begin construction.  To aid deliveries to the site, a pit lane will be built using part of the pavement and road.   It is necessary to close part of Cherry Orchard Road to do this.  Diversions will be in place.  Access to East Croydon station will be maintained via the south end of Cherry Orchard Road via Addiscombe Grove.

Once the pit lane has been built, the pavement on the site side of Cherry Orchard Road will be closed.  A sign will be put in place informing people to use the opposite pavement.  The road will remain two-way and the taxi rank relocated.

Jerry Fitzpatrick (Councillor for Addiscombe West) has raised the issue of whether construction work should be continuing with the developer and received the following reply:

“We continue to look at the C19 issues and the safety of in particular the construction team. The answer is currently fluid but we are currently taking a measured approach to getting on site as many others will be in the industry given Government directives.”

Jerry has also written to the Leader of Croydon Council and Sarah Jones MP for Croydon Central to ask them to raise with central government the issues of the definition of “key worker” and the appropriate support to those who are self-employed.
