Rain fell quite heavily both before and during the clean-up on Addiscombe Road. So it was not surprising that only seven plucky local residents braved the elements and – suitably attired – went into battle with the weeds and litter. (It is fair to add that several regular helpers had reasons for absence unconnected with the weather.)
Trees had shed leaves during the week, and some time was spent clearing wet leaves from the footway, making it safer for pedestrians walking to and returning from the Town Centre. 20 black bags were filled and collected in the afternoon by Ideverde, the Council’s contractors for the maintenance of planted areas.
I am grateful to Ann D, Anne B, Anne Mac, Hilary, Lis and Steve who joined me on this occasion. As ever, all of us in ECCO are grateful to the Council’s Clean and Green officer, Tracey Bellamy, for her help during the year. A big thank you to all volunteers who gave up time in 2017. I shall organise the next Boulevard clean-up in March 2018.
I hope very soon to have some news to report about replanting in the planted areas closest to Bisenden Road.
