Yvonne Tran will be leading on the painting of a mural on the low concrete wall along Billinton Hill leading up to East Croydon Station. The project, organised by Yvonne and Ellie Sandover, is funded by The Royal Gardens of Kew and Govia Thameslink Railways. It is being supported by Steve Fleming, the manager of East Croydon Station and Max Kenna of East Croydon Community Organisation (ECCO)
The mural will represent just a few of the many species of the street trees and wild flowers found in the ECCO area, a zone with no public open space between Addiscombe & Lower Addiscombe Road/the railway lines and Tunstall Road. The trees have been identified by Esther Potman, a local forest school practitioner, the flowers by a local botanist.
It is expected that the mural will be completed by the end of November.
The wild flower pictured above is Oxford Ragwort (Senecio squalidus). It is a neophyte, introduced into Britain after 1500AD.
