Meet 7.15pm Tuesday 8, July at the corner of Bisenden Road & Addiscombe Road to help tidy up the Boulevard#croydon

Goodgym are due to return on 8 July for another community tidy-up. They are a charity which combines community service with keeping fit and has for several years helped to keep The Boulevard in shape.   The Boulevard was the early 20th century nickname of the stretch of the Addiscombe Road running from Bisenden Road to East Croydon Station which has planted areas on the edge of the footway.

Goodgym members and ECCO volunteers will put in about 50 minutes work removing litter,  ivy, weeds and overgrowth of shrubs from the planted areas.   They will not intentionally destroy flowers and shrubs.

There will also be work on the Joan Pick legacy bed.   Andrea Perry recently renewed the borders and planted some colourful flowers and shrubs.  I have been watering them through the hot spell and despite the heat the plants continue to flourish,  alongside proliferating weeds,  unfortunately. Annie (Tunstall Road) and Steve (Cross Road) helped Andrea, Ann (Cedar Road) & Angela (Lebanon Road) to removed 10 bags full of surplus vegetation and rubbish at the last tidy-up on 13 May. Annie and Steve are pictured above.

Community members and friends are respectfully invited to assist in Goodgym’s endeavours to make East Croydon greener and tidier.   Please come and join them.   Please feel free to spread details on social media.

Loppers and shears will be available,  as well as litter-picks,  protective gloves, hi-vis jackets and much more.  Do bring your own equipment if you have it.

I shall be there and look forward to seeing ECCO friends and neighbours, and indeed anyone from any area willing to get out on what is likely to be a warm July evening and join the community effort.
