Frankie Lucas first trained at the Sir Philip Game Centre in Moreland Avenue when he was just 9 years old. He went on to win the gold medal in the Middleweight category in the 1974 Commonwealth Games, representing his native St Vincent. The boxing champions Frank Bruno and Duke Mackenzie, also trained at the Centre, as did the Olympic race walker Paul Nihil.
