Between September 2020 and November 2023, the ECCO area gained 44 new businesses and organisations, but lost 66.  Many of those that have left had occupied office space rather than shops.  In general, shops have tended to change hands rather than fall empty.  The trend to convert shops into dwellings appears to have abated.

Businesses have had to be flexible in order to survive the pandemic and economic downturn.  Caspian Dry Cleaners changed into Petsland, but still offer their home steam cleaning service.  Cosy Stoves now advertises a chimney sweep.

Notable losses include the Central Croydon GP Hub, Cherryfields meatpacking factory, Thanh’s Bistro, Hing Sun House and Ghengis, the cat from Ossie’s dry cleaners. Cherry Orchard Garden Centre, just outside the area on Sydenham Road, is also badly missed.
