Notwithstanding the cold and wet evening, 13 GoodGym volunteers (supplemented by Angela from Lebanon Road and me) spent nearly an hour performing a variety of tasks on or near The Boulevard, Addiscombe Road on 14 November.
The most notable achievement was that masses of wet leaves were bagged, and hopefully their clearance will have prevented several nasty slides and falls which might have put even more pressure on Croydon University Hospital A & E. In addition, there was weeding and litter-picking. In total, 41 bags were filled, which will be taken away by Veolia.
Alas, the Council’s excellent Neighbourhood Support team has now been disbanded, yet another service which been reduced or curtailed as a result of financial pressures. So I am even more grateful than usual to Tracey Bellamy, who is supporting voluntary community tidy-ups almost single-handed.
