While East Croydon may not be awash with pubs, we do have a handful of choice venues that offer probably more character and variety than almost anywhere else in Croydon and all within easy walking distance. There’s something for everyone.
The Builders Arms – 65 Leslie Park Road, Croydon, Surrey, CR0 6TP
The Builders Arms known for being a well-managed, friendly and cosy neighbourhood pub that offers reliably good drinks and better than average food. Reports are that the manager and staff know their business, and this is shown in the cellarmanship. The log fires are wonderful in winter.
The Builders Arms frequently stages performances by covers-bands / soloists.
At the heart of the community it has a pleasant mix of customers, and a remarkably spacious garden to the rear. The well maintained frontage is immediately recognisable for the flowers and tables & benches at the front.
Needs a few words from some of the patrons.
The Orchard has had its ups and downs, but seems to be under new management and heading upward
The Glamorgan – Cherry Orchard Rd
A predominantly younger professional crowd hang out at this gastro-pub famed for its menu’s (the daily specials are really worth checking out). The welcome is genuine and the staff are friendly and indulgent.
Less of a pub feel, than a wine bar – it’s scrubbed pine and a jumble of seating. Has a small garden to the side.
Music events have worked well here, and following the riots the Glamorgan hosted the Arts Festival and a number of fund raising events to help out businesses affected by the rioting.
The Porter & Sorter – Station Rd, Croydon, Surrey, CR0 6BT
Seems to rely on after-work drinkers popping in for pint before catching the train, and suffers from being the “wrong side” of Cherry Orchard Road. It can be packed early evening. It has a fairly standard pub fare menu.
This needs input from patrons.
The Cricketers, Addiscombe Road
Needs input from regular patrons – what’s it like?
Matthews Yard – 1 Matthews Yard, Off Surrey Street, Croydon CR0 1FF
Not local to East Croydon, but a big big supporter of the East Croydon arts festival after the riots and worthy of special place in all our hearts.
Another special place that offers something very different with real character, everyone has their own vision of the place so I leave it to you to explore.
Check out events to see the variety of activity – something for almost everyone. Don’t ever say Croydon doesn’t have soul!
Again we’ve quite a variety of places to eat, particularly if you include the pubs that serve meals. These are the one’s we know about. If you want one added send an email. It would be interesting to get some feedback.

Surprisingly few take-aways, given the council’s alleged concern about the number. The ones listed are the stalwarts who stood the test of time.
