East Croydon station has been allocated £50,000 for improvements. This money will come from a passenger compensation fund that the government made Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) set up following the timetable fiasco last year.
Passenger groups and other stakeholders can decide whether to spend their allocation at local station level or for wider passenger benefit. Passenger groups are independent organisations and the one that appears to cover East Croydon station is the Brighton Line Commuters.
The GTR website says that they are happy to attend local meetings, but that passenger or other stakeholder groups can also submit suggestions or that people can join an online passengers panel.
Suggestions must be made by 31 July 2019. Brendan O’Connor , chair of Tunstall and Addiscombe Court Road Residents Association, has suggested a mural of the kind already organised by the Rise Gallery. Anything to improve the appearance of the sorting office would be welcome, now that it is likely to be with us for many more years to come.
